Cold plunge — sometimes called an ice bath — is the part of contrast therapy that does the heavy lifting. The shock of 4°C water collapses peripheral circulation, triggers a noradrenaline release, and resets your stress response in a way nothing else quite matches.

Each plunge in our Austin, Texas suite is held to the degree by a closed-loop chiller and continuous filtration. No agitation, no bubbles — just still, glass-clear water cold enough to feel like it's cutting.

One to three minutes is the working dose. Members tend to do 90 seconds twice, sandwiched between sauna rounds. Beginners start with thirty seconds and build.

The plunge works best paired with sauna. See the full ritual for contrast therapy in Austin, Texas — sauna, ice bath, organic coffee, and a rotating gallery, all at our St Elmo flagship.
